Dr. Kate Koplan has built her career around one enduring focus: getting the right care reliably to every patient, every time. She’s spent two decades building the systems, cultures, and teams that make that possible. As Executive Vice President and Clinical Quality Officer at SCP Health, she oversees clinical quality across all service lines—emergency medicine, hospital medicine, critical care, and value-based programs—bringing the same conviction to national-scale operations that she developed leading quality programs at some of the country’s most rigorous integrated health systems.
Her passion for this work was shaped early. The daughter of two physicians focused on public health, Dr. Koplan grew up with a dual lens that never left her: the individual patient who deserves excellent care, and the population that deserves it equally. She remains active in clinical practice as an internist, and that grounding in frontline reality shapes everything she builds.
Dr. Koplan’s equal comfort with the science of quality and the complexity of making it work enables her to translate evidence-based frameworks into sustainable, real-world practice across diverse clinical environments, populations, and teams.

People-centered by design: Dr. Koplan’s quality philosophy is built around people — the patients who deserve reliable, equitable care and the clinicians who need well-designed systems to deliver it. She approaches every challenge with curiosity and collaboration rather than top-down prescription.
Equity as infrastructure: For Dr. Koplan, health equity isn’t a parallel workstream — it’s built into how she designs quality systems: both from the boardroom leadership perspective as well as from the ground up, ensuring that better outcomes reach every patient, not just those who are easiest to reach.
