Job Description

  • 91K annual combined ED volume-including 2 freestanding emergency centers
  • 506 hospital beds
  • 88 hours physician coverage
  • 75 hours NP/PA coverage
  • ABEM/ABEOM required
  • BE/BC-must be certified within 7 years of completing residency
  • History of taking ATLS required

Facility Information

LewisGale Medical Center, located in Salem, Virginia, is a full-service, 500-bed hospital and the flagship of the LewisGale Regional Health System. Founded in 1909 and part of the HCA Virginia network, it provides a comprehensive range of services including emergency medicine, cardiovascular care, cancer treatment, orthopedics, neurology, women's?health, and behavioral health. The facility is recognized as a Primary Stroke Care Center and accredited Chest Pain Center, offering advanced medical technologies such as robotic-assisted surgery and diagnostic imaging. With a strong commitment to education and quality care, LewisGale also hosts graduate medical programs in multiple specialties and upholds a mission centered on compassion, innovation, and the improvement of human life. Complementing the main hospital, LewisGale operates two freestanding emergency centers-Blue Hills ER and Cave Spring ER-both open 24/7 to deliver hospital-level emergency care closer to local neighborhoods. Blue Hills ER, a 10,000-square-foot facility on W. Ruritan Road in Roanoke, features eight private treatment rooms, on-site imaging, and laboratory services, offering rapid access to emergency care for the growing Route 460 corridor. Cave Spring ER, located on Ogden Road in Roanoke, provides similar full-service emergency capabilities, including imaging, lab testing, and treatment for adults and children. Both centers are staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and serve to reduce wait times and expand access to high-quality care across the Roanoke Valley, while maintaining seamless coordination with LewisGale Medical Center for advanced or specialized treatment.
